Latest Update for week beginning 3-17-24

I figured that I would make a quick update as tit o the current progress. I hope to be posting some screenshots of what the current layout looks like at the moment.

As the current look goes, the screen is broken into a few parts.

On the upper left side is a window that allows you to view character stats, skill tree, and inventory. This side also has a tab for overall game stats and system settings.

The upper middle and right of the screen is the view of the map, with payer character, objects and so forth. Currently I only have traditional roguelike ASCII representation on the map. I hope to add the toggle this week to switch between it and a top-down view. The original idea was for 2.5D and this may still happen. We are playing with what works better.

The bottom right has your character displayed with armor and weapons that should reflect equipment upgrades and so forth. Under the character is the HP, Mana and/or energy bars for said character along with bufffs and debuffs that are in effect.

The center bottom will display you skill/spell/potion selection.

Finally the bottom right will display your enemies along with their health, mana, buffs and debuffs.

Long the very bottom will be a running log of what all has occurred.

This is just the current design and is up for change but I feel like it is a decent layout that provides a good amount of visuals and information to the player.

We should be ready to unveil this by the end of the week depending on my health. I look forward to letting everyone see what it looks like but want the first impressions to be as good as possible thus the delay as we add finishing touches to the player screen.

It should be noted that we are overhauling the background system. So currently we will not have a video that shows any gameplay.

Mission Control we have lift-off, sort of.

By now, most of you know me well enough to know that I am constantly changing things up, and while I am big on planning, as the saying goes, “no battle plan survives contact with the enemy.”

I had thought about temporarily setting aside Dani and my game to work on a platformer that I had thought about. I hadn't done a ton on it as I had that week of bad MS symptoms and then a week of IV Steroids while I was also still fighting off my acute bronchitis. Then this week, I had another infusion, and between migraines, Dani being sick, and having a little extra time with my lovely wife than usual, not much was done.

Last night, I started thinking that I would hold off on the platformer until another Game Jam, which is what I had intended it initially to be for. I got back to thinking about this game and have a new direction that, if Dani agrees with it, would still be similar to our original idea but with some differences in UI and game-wise.

I will post in the discussion thread here in a few minutes about the new direction and gauge people’s thoughts on it.

Captian’s Log: Stardate 101177.5

Captain’s Log: Supplemental. Stardate 101177.5

I have yet to do much else on our two game ideas. We haven't given up; it has just been a rough couple of months between Dani Dino and myself. We haven't had the time or energy to do anything towards the development. That said, hopefully, in a couple of months, we can get the ship back and engaged.

Break about over.

I have had my final visit to the infusion center today. I hope to get back to working on some of the stuff maybe this weekend, hopefully at least by Monday.

I came up with some new ideas I still haven't reviewed with Dani, but I think she will like them. I will try to outline my thoughts in a post.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Welcome

Most everyone at the start of this group will know myself, Motivia from the groups Adult World Gamers and Explorminate. My daughter and the owner of the Studio goes by the handle Dani Dino.

At the start of this I am going to do pure invite-only to people she and I know. As progress is made we will further update who and how we invite new members.

Please feel free to ask questions and make suggestions or even observations.
