So... how's this coming along?

The Doom engine splits rooms up into areas known as sectors. Each sector can have its own unique ID, and scripts can be run to detect actions within the sector, variables tied to the sector, any objects or actors within the sector, the status of adjacent sectors, and tons of other stuff.

The first version of atmos is likely going to be a simple air/no air binary option. Later on, I'm going to add more variables and try adding things like pressure and differing gases.

USer from /tg/station here. Any ideas on how Atmos will be implemented?

All you need is Doom 2, really. It doesn't matter if it's the steam version or the other one you mentioned, because all you need is the WAD file; the executable you use nowadays is generally a source port, which can be downloaded freely.

There's a /v/ Doom/Skulltag steamgroup in my profile, check it.

Well ♥♥♥♥, i haven't had a proper doom game on my computer in ages. Which games should i get to prepare? Would steam versions do or is there a preffered source? (I can think of a nautical themed one that is often popular)

Spread the word, I'm going to need playtesters after all. And yes, to repeat what I've been saying; This isn't a 1:1 port, but rather a re-imagining in a Doom setting, albeit very similar and with the same core concepts. If you want 100% SS13, play SS13.

Cargo techs, warden and virologist suck, plz kill. Shaft Miner needs a rework or to be cut, library is awesome but might have to go too (regular SS13 will stil have it for library lovers) and i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love you for making this.

RTS controls are quite possible in Doom, and have been done already. It's sort of hackish, though, and requires some serious messing around. I'll likely try out a few different methods, but then again, it's all about what people expect from a Doom/SS13 hybrid - if the AI turns out unnecessary, it goes. If not, it stays.
25 Feb, 2012 @ 9:48pm
Also i have never played AI so maybe i shouldt talk on that regard, all i do is clone people and set up singulos.
25 Feb, 2012 @ 9:37pm
IMO the easiest way for an AI to control objects fast would be giving it some sort of RTS like camera and controls, clicking on things to open/close/activate/desactivate them. But then cameras would be useless and i dont know if something like that would be possible at all to begin with.

it begins

The main problem is letting the AI access doors and cameras that are far away without having to memorize every single location. Computer consoles and menus are possible, but how fun it is to play is a whole different story; then again, playing AI is a nightmare in regular SS13, so.
25 Feb, 2012 @ 9:29pm
AI will be player controlled. There's a security cam feature in Doom, and if that doesn't work with 200+ cameras, I'll think about hacking something together.
25 Feb, 2012 @ 9:28pm
That is awesome. Will there be an AI as well or would that be too hard to make?
25 Feb, 2012 @ 9:23pm
By the way, breakable/fixable lights are in and working.
