I do not recall how I became a part of this group initially and I've never really took advantage of it...
Anyway, anyone interested in a real life LAN party this Saturday? KDR is hosting and there is much fun to.be had for the taking.

Just in case you didn't get the email:

Greetings, fellow gaming enthusiast!

I write to inform you that the Cornell Computer Reuse Association will be holding a LAN party this Friday (10/14) in Stimson G25 from 9pm to 2am. At said establishment, we will be engaging in electronic stimuli such as: Starcraft, Warcraft3/DOTA, Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 2, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Rock Band, a XBox Kinect, and many more! To enter the celebrations, a one-time entry fee of $5 per person or $20 per group of five shall be requested at the time of your arrival. But worry not! Your hand-earned wages will not be in vain! We will use the aforementioned coinage to facilitate the donation of computers and computer accessories to help flood relief in various schools around the area! Thus, I urge you to join us as we revel in merriment and forget the pains of prelim season.

Sincerely,

Jason Wang
President, Cornell Computer Reuse Association

PS: B.Y.O.H. (Bring your own headphones)

So I was wondering what kind of special things we can do during LANs to make them more fun for everyone.

For instance, I'd really appreciate it if people posted their thoughts on certain games so I get a better feel for what was popular / what was not (since my opinion of how well a game is received is based on which team I was playing on).

I also am considering doing tournaments so we get a better idea of whose good at what (i.e. FPS and RTS) so we can balance teams better (and obviously cause a little competition is fun).

The last thing I thought might be cool is to do other stuff besides LAN as a group. Not really sure what, but I thought like a Nerf fight or a sledding day (obviously when its snowy) or something else might be nice.

It's sort of hard to gauge what people are thinking since everyone apparantly thinks I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mindreader. SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥' POST
Turtles 23 Aug, 2011 @ 8:00pm
We are also instituting a new policy for LANs. From now on, I will pick games before the LAN itself. Feel free to suggest titles of games you wish to play or veto ones I pick BEFORE the LAN but DON'T come in whining that you don't like one of the games chosen. This policy is instituted because I've come to realize we're all very lazy and indecisive, and someone's gotta "organize" this or else we'll all just end up whining about how we hate game X and love game Y.
Turtles 22 Jul, 2011 @ 11:21pm
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
unfortunately battlefront2 won't support LAN (unless one of you is very clever with hamachi or the like) >___>
Medieval Total War - Neil instinctively knew that he was at a distinct advantage when he started surrounding me on 3 sides (whereas I decided to walk straight in, thinking "what's going on")

yea i'll try to keep this updated as well as i keep the fb group updated
Sorry!
Turtles 22 Jul, 2011 @ 11:20pm
cruddles i keep forgetting to update the steam group:
here are the past few updates:
I feel like GLaDOS - cuz I CANT STOP TESTIN'
Today's menu:
L4D - 2 versions neither work - will continue the hunt
COD1 - works excellent, sniper battles ftw
StarCraft - me and Neil are rubbish
WarCraft - DoTA? huh? wut? where?
Quake 3 - Quake Live better

tf2 is go

Stronghold Crusader Extreme - Rei and I had no idea what was going on. It was a weird RTS where the outcome seemed essentially random.
Team Fortress Classic - Symantec AntiVirus deemed it a Trojan, so that wouldn't work.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 - LAN doesn't work as Rei and I were unable to connect with one-another. Level rendering in this crack seems broken as the draw distance seemed to barely extend to about 10 feet in front of our skaters. Creating our custom skaters was fun at least.
horse9118 16 Jul, 2011 @ 8:37pm
instead of downloading tf2 is there a way to copy it and then sync it with the steam cloud?
Turtles 6 Jul, 2011 @ 9:50pm
So me and Neil be testing games out - We've added a bunch of racing games to our repertoire, mostly because Neil loves racing games and because I am intensely amused by smashing my car into his. Found some promising games (a potential L4D and obviously tf2 needs retesting) - will keep you guys posted! Hope you guys are having awesome summers!
Turtles 1 Jul, 2011 @ 8:13pm
testing tf2 on the Cornell Phillips Computers... well we've been here since 7 and the game has downloaded... 76% so uhh... yeaaaa
LittleSull 29 Jun, 2011 @ 6:32pm
Hey, I work at CIT on campus. Not sure how often people in this group use the labs on campus for gaming but I wanna get the feedback from some students that do on how that works out, and get some further feedback on some ideas being tossed around at CIT. If you do LAN in labs relatively frequently and are interested in providing feedback toss me an email at ajs394@cornell.edu.

Thanks guys
Turtles 26 May, 2011 @ 1:45pm
So there are a buncha options for summer fun.
We can always get together via steam and play games like L4D and the like.

Personally I'd like to try one of the following 2.
Neptune's Pride: A larger "long term" space RTS. Simplified down to focus more on player interactions.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/03/18/the-complete-pride-and-falls/
http://np.ironhelmet.com/
Die2Nite: A zombie survival "long term" RTS.
http://www.die2nite.com/#index
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/11/15/die2nite-horrifying-harbour-of-crime/

Let me know if you're interested.
Turtles 25 May, 2011 @ 6:14pm
hey dudes. So I've gone through all my links and have made a huge list of games (both freeware and... uhh not) to try out. I will try to find ones that would be fun to play during the school year and try to arrange something fun for the summer.
BUT I could use some help. My list involves a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of games and it'd be nice to have some volunteers who're willing to try out some freeware and let me know whether they think it'd be fun to play as a group. PLEASE PM ME IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER (I'll send you 1-3 games for you to try out).

So an update on what I've played:
Liquid War 5 - a fun game where you basically control a blob (think of it as an army) and you fight against another blob, where the idea is to surround and absorb your opponents blob. Might be fun as like a 10 minute warm-up while we download some other game. 2-6 Players
http://www.ufoot.org/liquidwar/v5

Realm of the Mad God - a faster paced MMORPG (lvl capped at 20) that's a great timekiller.
Turtles 25 May, 2011 @ 6:14pm
Simple, fun but gets boring fast. Definitely not LAN material, but I recommend it if you've got some time to kill.
http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/

Quake Live - FUN. If you don't know what Quake is or never have played (like I had), give it a shot. Heavy emphasis on aiming and strafing, it's tons of fun. Definitely LAN-able
http://www.quakelive.com/#!home

I'm still in the process of picking a game we could play over the summer. I'll try to have that ready ASAP.
Turtles 10 May, 2011 @ 1:02pm
@ObeseMonkey - I'm ok with it, but if people start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about how hard TF2 is, it wasn't my idea.

Also: http://kotaku.com/5800409/spyparty-beta-starting-soon-heres-how-to-sign-up
I think this might be pretty cool to try out - we could set up a informal tourney style of thing.
ObeseMonkey 9 May, 2011 @ 11:08am
So we should totally do a TF2 LAN. Just saying.
Turtles 30 Apr, 2011 @ 4:16pm
If people want to? We could even start earlier if people want it. Tell me what you people wannnt
TestTubePuppy 30 Apr, 2011 @ 3:09pm
Are we holding a LAN event on Slope Day? If so, we should have pizza to celebrate
Turtles 27 Apr, 2011 @ 7:59pm

horse9118 23 Apr, 2011 @ 3:37pm
bfbc2 doesn't work :(
Vortartare 20 Apr, 2011 @ 10:13pm
I will be there. I play everything kthx.
Turtles 20 Apr, 2011 @ 6:51pm
i believe it's just a standard LAN sadly >< sry
Turtles 19 Apr, 2011 @ 7:54pm
@ Ryan - Sorry to hear that. I recommend that you stop by this Friday + join us for some Diablo 2 you can definitely play that game with one hand. I am sure we can find some other games for all of us to play as well, iffn Diablo's not to your liking.
This Guy 18 Apr, 2011 @ 2:30pm
Reddit post has been updated with new room info (so I can stop going down there and putting it on the board).
Turtles 14 Apr, 2011 @ 7:25pm
bring COD with you; we'll see it into rotation. Maybe later you can get mw2. But i think we've got plenty for tomorrow :D thanks!
horse9118 13 Apr, 2011 @ 9:55pm
got cod4 to work :D, might get mw2 if anyone wants to
Turtles 13 Apr, 2011 @ 9:26pm
that is true. Well this week will probably feature diablo 2 and of course the games we've got up and running in the past :D
horse9118 11 Apr, 2011 @ 10:22pm
bad company 2 might be too graphics intensive for the computers
Turtles 10 Apr, 2011 @ 10:58am
got diablo 2 working (at least on a computer)
working on getting battlefront up n running
Turtles 9 Apr, 2011 @ 9:01am
so we now have a facebook group, cuz the steam group is clearly not notifying people quickly enough (also because this past LAN, we suddenly had to switch locations, and we realized we had no way to really tell participants where to find us, besides leaving a message on the whiteboard). Right now the group is called Cornell LAN - name is subject to change, but it'll at least have those 2 words in it. I think our goal for next week is to have a running copy of Diablo 2 (the one we had didn't work).
Turtles 7 Apr, 2011 @ 7:59pm
we do have a copy of bad company 2, but we never did try it out ><
our numbers are kinda small for it too. LANs are weekly (Friday Nights 7-Saturday @ the Upson basement computer lab - i.e. engineering quad. If you know where Duffield is - walk inside - all the way to the back of the Atrium, thru the glass doors into upson, down the stairs, down the hall towards the vending machines - lab is across from machines) Bring Friends!
Wingnut 6 Apr, 2011 @ 7:06pm
hey guys, i'll definitely show up at the next lan party! anyone have battlefield bad company 2? currently one of my faves and it makes for intense squad play/team tactics.
Turtles 2 Apr, 2011 @ 10:46am
more games continued:
tony hawks pro skater 4
dawn of war
battlezone 2
star wars battlefront 1 & 2
Diablo 2
Borderlands
Tribes

So yea, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (standard, not metric) of games. Now we just need players!!!
Turtles 2 Apr, 2011 @ 10:44am
we've been having great success in the number / variety of games at the LANs (listed below), but we're having a huge problem with getting a decent number of people to show up. Obviously people are often busy, but we've only really gotten the word out to maybe 7 people. If you know of people who might enjoy playing some pc games with a bunch of nice guys, please spread the word!
Here is the list of games we have / played:
Age of Empires 2
Command n Conquer Generals / RA2 / YR
Counter Strike 1.6, Source
Half-life DeathMatch
Halo CE (mod halo)
NFS Underground 2 / HP2
Quake 3
StarCraft + BroodWar
Unreal Tournament
Warcraft 3 & Frozen Throne
Age of Mythology
Burnout Paradise
Call of Duty
Conflict Global Storm (a new favorite XD)
Coassacks - Back to War & European Wars & The Art of War
Day of Defeat
Ghost Recon
Grand Theft Auto 2
Civ 4 Colonization
Half life 2 deathmatch
midnight club 2
serious sam 1 & 2
soldier of fortune 2 double helix
stronghold Crusader
SWAT 4
TF2
Turtles 5 Mar, 2011 @ 9:36pm
o forgot to mention - this week we managed to successfully implement battlezone 2 (an RTS / "tank" game which kept us up until 5 AM) and try out halo CE (a community-mod open source halo game). Next week I will also have some mod maps for us to try out.
Turtles 26 Feb, 2011 @ 6:26pm
Sorry Vortor - like a fail admin I only read your comment from the first LAN today. If you still don't know - Upson is in the Engineering quad on the southern end of campus. It is directly connected to Duffield - if you know where that is (big building at the end of the main road going through campus)
