I've done both and the best results have been with a dedicated server. I used Multiplay servers for the one I ran for me and my close friends. Even with thier really really bad internet it ran much smoother then when I would host it. I'm pretty sure if you rent a game server via Multiplay you can get a free mumble or a discounted ts3 server with it as well.

Well I just have to figure out if I want to P2P and have you guys on my machine or rent a server. Not sure how to set up a modded server either. But prices werent that bad when I looked.$9-15 a month.
