I think part of that can be true. I have encountered many guys who have waifus and use them to replace their empty life irl get pissy over someone enjoys her in ways their want and even think they should protect her and the series that is public and wants more people to get in lol
And something makes me feel very weird that they believe in what they see in animes that girls like guys who can cook and look at irl they are heading 40 and can’t get one that likes them because they can cook. This is something related to being socially stunned for too long

Because it's emotionally validating, especially to a very specific audience. And for some reason it actually sells.
