My Steam download speeds are going insanely slow at the moment. I did multiple speedtests on "speedtest.net" and "fast.com" and all times my speeds were 900Mbps like usual. Why is Steam capping my download speeds?

Valve does not cap download speeds.

More often the not, the ISP may limit the speed or the hardware may limit the speed.

Remember, data going to your RAM is a lot different then data going across your storage drives.

What I do - in those very rare cases, after checking that people report problems with Steam (and it is not that 'magic hour' when they DO maintain their servers/Tuesday?) - I change the Steam server/country.

Again, not sure, if that really has to do with the actual Steam servers. They are among the most reliable worldwide. The Akamai kind of 0.0000001% downtime kind.

"ISPs" ... on the other hand ... cannot trust them. Especially, when you have a lightning fast fibre flat connection?

I changed from UK to Poland and it was fixed, I think UK servers on Steam might be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ themselves.

I'm also from the UK and I've had exactly the same issue today. Reading the comments I changed my download region to the Netherlands and it's going at the expected speed. Something seems to be wrong with the UK servers.

It's the biggest sale of the year. What exactly do you expect to happen? The servers are overloaded in any area where there's a high population density.

Lucky you! my speed is capped at 5mbps so im guessing its a steam problem

i changed mines to poland and it fixed it
