i saw that two specifically Planetside2 and rome 2 total war are not going to be supported by the steam machine....is this going to change or would i be better off getting a desktop?

No need. You can still play Planetside 2 and Rome Total War since it also supports PC games when running on Windows 8.1

on steam they have a list of games that operate on steam machine called the linksuys list...then they say but u can stream 5000 plus other games whats this streaming....

so i plug in the steam machine accsess my steam account and start playing....if its that simple im still totally sold bc im rdy to take my gaming to a way better lvl....i love my dell laptop but it doesnt run games the way they are meant to be run bc of my graphics card....

so i chatted with a dell rep and they said it will play any game on my steam list....but from what im reading that doesnt seem to be true....if i have to stream my favorite games from my crappy laptop to my $900.00 steam machine whats the point....thats the whole reason im purchasing a "steam machine" so i can play my "Steam" library games like planetside 2 and rome2 total war am i better off just getting a desktop bc i dont want to wait until october just to be disapointed???? thx to everyone for hlp i appreciate it....

you are the only one saying anything about Streaming... he tells you he doesn't understand it.

He DOES say it will run W8.1. You are covered.

win7/8 is not ms supported anymore.

and why do we need to tell you this. ( they are dead and gone OS thats not supported anymore. ) this is not about we hate OS, i had win7 longer then win10 as fare as i remmeber it, its simple matter know your lifecycle in them, and then times is up.

And why have you not upgrade to win10, from Windows 8.1., that was free to do so and might still be, and use MS extend 1 year with it.
