[SOLVED] Steam store, client or website, unvailable
Hey,

I've had this problem for two days now and I still haven't found a solution for it. I can access every other feature of Steam, community and wishlist for example, but not Store. This also happens to include the website.

I receive the "Error code -118, Failed to load web page (unknown error)". Help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ahriman

[SOLVED]

I managed to solve the issue. Here is what I did.

Quite many said that the problem lies with the C:\user\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file. It was supposed to contain the IP for the following:

127.0.0.200 store.steampowered.com

127.0.0.201 v1.steam.hlxgame.cc

127.0.0.200 store.steampowered.com

127.0.0.201 v1.steam.hlxgame.cc

These weren't there for me. So I placed them there and copied over the original file. Now my error changed from 118 unknown error to 102 error. This was a good change for me, since it meant something was different. I then restarted the computer and checked for the error, it was still there. Now I did the same thing as everyone else that seemed to have the problem, I removed the IP's. Now it works.

TLDR;

1. Go to C:\user\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and locate file called Host
2. Copy it into your desktop
3. Open with Notepad and see if you have any of the following IP's there.
4. If they are not there, add them.
5. Copy over the file in the original folder
6. Restart computer.
7. Repeat parts 2 and 3.
8. Remove the IP's

Now it should work.

Unfortunately nothing worked...

I have currently managed to locate possible problem. I cannot access Steam store on any device that is on my current network. I have tried to reset default settings to my router and made sure that it has the latest firmware update. I receive "Invalid SSL certificate" error on random pages on steam, I have yet to run to this problem on any other site.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Ahriman

Sadly the issue came back when i jumped on steam just now. It did resolve the issue once i changed the host file and reset, but now it won't launch again. I'm going to try a rolled back version once i get it to launch again.

Who is your DNS Provider?

Unless some software you installed meddled with your IP settings, you would not need to touch the host file ever.

Switch to Google Public DNS IP Addresses IPv4 (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) if you are on your default ISP DNS.
