As soon as I see the notice that Someone's At The Door and I scroll over to click the door, that's already long enough for the child to say a piece of dialogue like, "That's it, I'm better off somewhere else!" and they stomp away. This looks like a glitch making the walk-off happen automatically for kids right away, preventing my house from ever accruing children. I tried validating game files, seems fine, but it will not start no matter what. it tried to start and then falls back to click to play before any screen loads.

The game launches. Shows various logos, as usual. Then it reaches a slightly animated view of a city, with background music, and "♥♥♥♥ the war!" written on a broken wall. There are no buttons (I had to exit with Alt+F4), or other interactive components. What do I do from there?...
