Recommend if you are dedicated. Other than that, this game will make you wish you would rather jerk it with fiberglass than continue progressing.

✅ Great story (it’s not very long, but it’s more than enough).
✅ The graphics look nice (the 2D backgrounds are nicely remastered).
✅ Tons of replayability (you get different items depending on how you beat the game).
✅ Achievements.

❌ I know this is originally an old game, but the loading screens get boring pretty fast (highly recommend the Fusion Fix mod to speed up loading times).
❌ I didn’t like how some puzzles require you to inspect items in a very specific way to open or interact with them.
❌ Very limited inventory size (you’ll be forced to drop items all over the map to save space).
❌ The backtracking is crazy, especially on a first playthrough.

Feels like one of those old Atari/arcade games where they're unnecessarily difficult and obtuse to maximize the amount of quarters you have to put in the machine if you want to finish the game. Like seriously, props to anyone that played this when it came out without the internet because the amount of backtracking and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ situations that you can get yourself into is insane.

Thought you'd be on a level playing field with the enemies while controlling two characters at once in a forced camera perspective with (optional) tank controls? Best we can do is cramped rooms packed with zombies, sonic speed stun-locking monkeys and hunters, flying bats and crows, excessively clingy leech zombies, and one shot ganking frogs.

You thought Rebecca would be the one fighting something in the swimming pool so you gave her all the powerful weapons? Sucks to be you. Now Billy has to fight a giant centipede with a knife.

You thought Billy needed to take the hookshot up there? Go back down, you should've just known who needed to do what.

You value your time? ♥♥♥♥ you. 10 seconds of unskippable door animations for every 10 seconds it takes you to cross the room.

You thought you wouldn't need the 2 slot hookshot anymore in your 6 slot inventory after the train? Go backtrack your way through the training facility you just spent an hour or so clearing to retrieve it, but this time the devs put monkeys everywhere.

Oh, did I say 6 slot inventory? I meant 4, can't forget your gun and ammo. Playing as Billy? He's got a knife, so now you have 3 slots. Like carrying a healing item? that's another slot. Carrying a puzzle item? That's another slot. Want an item box to store all this stuff? Throw it on the ground.

Like good boss design? Deal with this big bat while a bunch of smaller bats try to give you rabies. How about multiple bosses where you have 2 characters to simultaneously control.

All of this is avoidable if you know what's coming, but spoiling yourself to have an enjoyable experience isn't fun, and games are supposed to be fun. Playing this blind on your first playthrough is just asking for a bad time. I genuinely don't even think this is a bad game despite everything above, it has some good qualities and beautifully rendered backgrounds, but it's marred by so many poor decisions. I liked it enough, but I can't recommend this to anyone except dedicated RE fans. Even the positive reviews are negative. Just wait for the remake.
