yet another banger from nomada

From my first view of about 80 minutes I'm kinda unsure about this game. I tried this before Gris, since Neva is on sale as of writing this and I've read you don't have to play Gris before.

The visuals are stunning and mostly why I got interested in the game in the first place, as many others too, I think. The music isn't bad but not really memorable either.

The gameplay is what is the worst about this game imo; the controls are quite sluggish sometimes for me without spoilering too much there is a flee sequence, or call it what you want, early on; you have to jump and dash to not get hit by what you're fleeing from. That's where the controls were noticable the most I've had it more than a couple times that I've hit jump or dash and the game just said "no", leading to me losing health or dying and having to retry the whole passage again - played HK and Silksong, never had that problem there so that's not a controller issue.

Furthermore it's sometimes hard to distinguish fore- from background so there are times where you don't know where you have to go or where you can go and where you can't.


In the moment of writing this I'm unsure as of if I would recommend it, more leading to no unfortunately, since I think just the visuals and music aren't enough for that. Maybe if it's on sale and the story turns out to be mesmerizing, otherwise I don't know since the game does only last about 4h I've read which I think is pretty short for the full price of this title.

NOMADA STUDIO created another little masterpiece. Everything is kept simple but effective, from story to gameplay. Everything works perfectly. The music is powerful and fitting to the mood, the art style is clean, the animations are some of the smoothest I've ever seen in a 2d game. I loved every single second with this work of art. Can't recommend enough.
