Why are there no addons that add weapons and stuff as appose to replacing?

I think most people know what makes teamfortress teamfortress, what makes portal portal, forza horizon forza horzion... but what makes half life half life? Honestly, I never got why this game felt special to so many people and why they want a half life 3 so bad. By the way, how many of those people asking for a hl3 played alyx? Isn't that the third game in the franchise?...

still upset all my achivments reset when they bundled the games togeher :( still havent sat down and got em again. they ruined my perfect achivment score :(
