'Batman: Arkham Knight' is the pinnacle of the series, the perfect conclusion to Batman and the story that began in Arkham Asylum. This new installment aimed to improve upon everything seen before, with new hardware opening up new possibilities. And it succeeded.

While the core framework of the series was retained, the presentation was different, there were new mechanics, new controls, new enemies, and some familiar ones. But despite the many changes, they only enhanced the final result. In my opinion, the story is the best in the series. It begins with multiple open fronts but concludes with every loose end neatly tied up. Graphically, it was a revolution, a huge leap forward that didn’t compromise the smooth performance of the previous entries. The gameplay improved, certain aspects were balanced, and new mechanics were added, such as the ability to pilot the Batmobile. The map was no longer just Arkham Asylum, now we could explore all of Gotham.

Honestly, throughout my playthrough, I didn’t find a single flaw. Therefore, for me, this is the best game in the series, though I recommend playing it after completing the first two Arkham games.

I loved this one, and for me that was a surprise, as I finished Arkham City relatively unsatisfied. Over 10 years later it looks and runs great, and the writing surpasses the previous zero-risk entries of the franchise. To me the Batmobile feels amazing, even if it usually gets a lot of flak, and, while there is a familiar abundance of Riddler trophies and side missions, these feel less generic or clunky. For better or worse it is the peak Batman experience: enjoyable combat, more contained stealth and solid voice acting for the classic roster of Gotham residents.
