I'll start with the good:
The vibe, the atmosphere this game creates at times is pretty amazing. It really does feel like you're a part of an oranization fighting for your people's freedom, unlike the other far cry titles where the protagonist is more forcefully injected into the setting.

The gunplay feels smooth, so does the way most gadgets are tied into it.

Vehicles are also pretty good, especially lovely to see how boats available as a genuine option in some places.

My favourite part is the writing, that they managed to properly convey the mentality of actual revolutionaries, the revolutionary optimism coupled with an accurate analysis of their fight and sober knowledge of what will happen after their victory, the need to make morally gray decisions and deal with the dark side of such struggles - unlike most games depicting this kind of setting which default to "we're the good guys, after we win by just killing the BBEG everything will be perfect", this game directly tackles these aspects in dialogue, cutscenes and even gameplay, with remnant loyalist forces retaking captured bases after the end of the story showing that the despite the tyrant having been overthrown, its not yet over. The good, the bad, the ugly is all there, again unlike most games of this direction.
To add on to that, the way the atypical characters play into the story feels very organic - paolo's wish to at first give up and run away rather than fight again, because he knows he'll have to keep fighting even afterwards to have a place as a trans man feels very understandable, the lesbian couple's and the vegan girl's roles in the story add representation without it feeling forced or ill fitting - it just feels like you're watching actual people trying to go about their lives rather than some out of place carricature to sell to queer and alternative players.
Possibly the best implementations of these topics i've seen from a major studio in a towards the mainstream directed game.

The bad:
This game sadly still does a far cry - you're a guerilla, but instead of moving with a squad, planning ambushes, recruiting locals, attacking bases, you're running around solo with your animal companion for 90% of the game. There is one instance of the above, a plannes ambush on a convoy, which feels amazing - but thats kinda it.
You're just on your own for most of the game, with AI guerillas popping up here and there as random events or as mission components but always more serving as set dressing rather than actual allies fighting together with you towards a common goal which is a massive disservice to the guerilla setting.

Most importantly though, you can feel how rushed the game was.
The three regions have drastically different levels of quality to them in all aspects, storytelling, points of interest, feel of polish.
From right to left it goes from great to good to just mediocre.
In general there are many places where you can see that there was more planned, but never implemented due to crunch - vehicle customization for example, you can find concept art for what it was supposed to look like, meanwhile the actual options ingame are...meh at best.

Which leads me into the creative direction. The game places great emphasis on "resolver" or rather makeshift solutions due to limited resources and no way to get better items. Makes perfect sense, its a guerilla war in a nation with an unarmed population - until the point where the guerilla movement is strong enough to raid military convoys, capture bases and free whole regions from military rule. At that point you logically have access to captured military gear, can have anything brought in from the outside because you control ports, could even build manufacturing capabilities yourself - yet top tier attachments are nailed together pvc pipe and attachments, armor is made from sheetmetal signs, plastic bottles and the like and a ram for your car is made from a scrap aircraft wing. Bruh.

In a similar vein, the addition of very unrealistic items.
This setting demands a certain level of realism to make the story feel immersive - not simulator tier, videogame logic for convenienve is fine, but a back mounted multi tube rocket launcher? Magical wallhack backpack? Handheld firework launcher with tracking missiles that easily clap any aircraft?
Its not like these were needed to solve some gameplay issue either, you have grenades, an RPG-7, a tracking missile launcher, pets that ping enemies for you - so why?

On the topic of just why - weapon customization and unique variants. The second are unique, pre customized versions of obtainable ones.
Can't change them, so most are worse than their normal counterparts.
Whacky high tier resolver attachments already mentioned, weapon progression is done partially by giving lower tier weapons less or worse modification options.
This just feels bad - its a singleplayer shooter, i wanna use what looks cool rather than what the devs decided i should be using.

There is a remedy in most cases, which brings me into the most annoying part - the monetization.
For a number of lower tier weapons, higher tier reskins exist, either as part of a cash shop bundle or through the "moneda" coop mission store.
Both are ass.

This is not a cheap game, nor is it live service - i'm expecting to have every item be obtained ingame, through a mission, collectible, achievement or progression step.
There is no justification for a cash shop, end of discussion.
The moneda missions through which you can obtain a weekly rotation of paid items along with some unique ones like the libertad versions of low tier weapons, giving them access to all mod slots and high tier mods feel like just a way to force a multiplayer for absolutely no reason.
I wish they hadn't wasted time on these and rather invested the dev hours into the above mentioned parts, possibly would have been an AC:Black Flag level of accidentally making the best game in its niche game in that case.

Plenty of stuff to nitpick, but thats the most important parts.

Ubisoft really took a step backwards with this one. Everything from the combat to the story overall feels quite specious and mediocre unlike some of the previous Far Cry games. On top of that, I bought this game last year and it wouldn't fire up properly. I had to contact Ubisoft Support to get it working properly and that became a 3 month ordeal. About 9 months after that, I ran into a issue which caused me to lose over 80 hours of gameplay both in the Main Story and DLCs that I am unfortunately not able to recover at all despite numerous attempts at resolving the issue. I'll have to restart the main game and DLCs in order to grind out some of the late game achievements I've been wanting to grind for a while. To put it bluntly, cow dung has more value than this game. Spend your money elsewhere!
