You get what you pay for.

Retrowave is not a racing game. It's an endless driving experience with traffic as your obstacle. There are 5 different modes to play (multiplayer is empty, though), but they all end up playing the same way.

Every aspect of the game is OK, but it feels like, on the whole, it could be something even better. The scenery is great, there are plenty of stages to choose from, and the soundtrack is also good, and maybe that's why it raises expectations. Due to these aspects, the setting ends up being great, and having control of your desired camera also adds to it. I also wished the scenery would evolve or just change from time to time during a drive since it becomes pretty stale and boring after a while.

The game design choices are what bothered me the most. It plays too much like a mobile game with subpar driving, no variation or randomness from drive to drive, and a linear progression system forcing the player to play more and more to unlock upgrades. It also felt too easy even on the hardest difficulty.

For its price it's definitely worth it, but you won't get more than a couple of hours out of it.

Runs perfectly fine on Steam Deck so I have no clue why Valve labeled it as "Unsupported" but I've experienced no issues with running this game On Steam Deck.

I love this game. It's like that mobile game called Traffic Racer but better & set in the 80s.
