I really like Iron Harvest but it's not a game you will play for years to come. The thing that make this game unique is the setting with its immaculate dieselpunk vibes and asethetics and that the people at Kingart Games really nailed.

Although I am neither experienced nor particularly skilled in RTS games. It feels as though the developer’s prioritized artwork and design first, gameplay second, and added the story only after the maps had been completed.

Gameplay
If you are familiar with Company of Heroes, this game will feel very similar, aside from the addition of mechs. The core mechanics are straightforward: you have only three main buildings: the Headquarters, the Barracks, and the Mech Factory. Resources are gathered from pumps, scattered stashes on the map, and wrecks left behind by destroyed mechs.
There is virtually no research system, apart from a single building upgrade. In practice, gameplay revolves largely around producing mechs. Choosing a faction with superior mech units like Saxony provides in my experience an advantage. Infantry units felt situational, with anti-tank troops and flamethrower squads being the most useful. Machine guns occasionally serve well in defensive roles, but anti-infantry mechs seem largely unnecessary. Spamming anti-tank units often proves effective, as most can handle infantry too, at least against AI opponents it worked for me. Multiplayer appears nearly inactive.
Tactics wise you can use your troops to go behind cover or buildings. In theory grenades should help, in practice I solely spammed flamethrower units.

Story
Story missions vary between scenarios where you advance without a base like collecting troops and healing via stashes or traditional base-building missions. In later levels, my screen frequently faded to black, making me think the game had crashed. However this is a bug and the next cutscene will play after waiting for 5 minutes.

The narrative itself feels like an afterthought. Despite the game’s impressive artwork, it lacks a compelling plot. Essentially, the story suggests that no faction is inherently evil and instead, each has been manipulated into war by a fourth organisation.

Sound
Each faction features its own language. However, the soundtrack is forgettable, and the sound effects lack impact. Considering the presence of massive war machines, the subdued audio, particularly the barely audible footsteps and gunfire, feels underwhelming.

Graphics
Visually, the game excels. Units and models are beautifully designed, showcasing a wide range of imaginative concepts. The maps are varied and engaging, with the large city environments standing out as the most impressive.

Conclusion / TL;DR
A visually impressive RTS with unique mech designs and accessible mechanics, but it lacks depth, memorable storytelling, and a thriving multiplayer scene. Not worth playing for its aesthetics and setting alone.
