First it was the "BFG Division" with DOOM 2016 & now it's "The Only Thing They Fear is You"
DOOM Eternal is easily a 9 out of 10 in my book.

Simply, because id Software improved much of the gameplay mechanics & used an updated engine with id Tech 7. Without going too much into spoilers for the main game & The Ancient Gods Part 1 & 2.

DOOM Eternal focuses more on faster-paced gameplay & platforming, compared to DOOM 2016 where you're mostly boots on the ground, Eternal makes you feel like an unstoppable juggernaut killing one horde of Demons after another with pure focus & speed when you're really locking in on the game especially on higher difficulties. Improved weapons like the Combat Shotgun that gives you two firing alts to either turn your Combat Shotgun into a Sticky-Bomb launcher which is super useful against Cacodemons & Arachnotrons or Full-Auto Shotgun where the barrel revolves rapidly making it a high-rate-of-fire weapon that's excellent in overwhelming Demons, mainly Stone Imps. Another great improved weapon example is the Chaingun + Energy Shield, protecting me from MOST damages & saved me countless times on Nightmare mode when I'm critically low on health, great against most enemies including Tyrants & pro tip here, if you keep pressing the Dash button towards your enemies with your Energy Shield you can actually stun them faster becoming vulnerable to glory kills or just keep Dashing into them with Energy Shield till they die by blunt force trauma in hilarious ways (Done it many times with Cacodemons)
I could go on describing all the other weapons in Doomguy's arsenal in Eternal, but I'll let you discover them for yourselves. Go have fun & discover what best fits your weapon play style.

With id Tech 7, graphically I've noticed they put more emphasis on the textures & vibrant retro style colors rather than the dark & gritty color palette with the shading & lighting they had with id Tech 6 they used for DOOM 2016 & Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. Not complaining though, figured id Software wanted to go for a more retro feel with DOOM Eternal which is nice. Not to mention you can now peel off Demon's flesh exposing their bones & organs when doing immense amounts of damage on them with your heavy weapons like the Super Shotgun.

Speaking of retro style, I do respect the fact id Software didn't implement any microtransactions with Eternal, or respect that Bethesda didn't force them to, they could've but didn't, maybe because when playing DOOM Eternal, I could feel their passion in their game here when doing the old school basics with having Lives now & the sound effects when finding collectibles is like music to my ears. Takes me back to when games were just simple & fun.

Music & Boss fights are also just as memorable as in DOOM 2016 with Mick Gordon returning to compose the soundtracks for the main game. Yet again, creating one of the most iconic soundtracks like "The Only Thing They Fear Is You" on par with "BFG Division" setting the tone of what Eternal is all about here. Other soundtracks he did that are also incredible to listen to is "Hell on Earth" capturing the hellish landscape on Earth conquered by the Demons, "Cultist Base" that sounds like a good workout music if I'm being honest here, the grotesque "Super Gore Nest", "Phobos Base" that makes you feel like a badass, "BFG 10K" that's absolutely bonkers & chaotic, the creepy eerie "Urdak" calm / fight theme, the dreaded end of the world "Icon of Sin", my personal favorite "The DOOM Hunter" theme that slowly builds up the intense bass & dread of doom, the soothing relaxing ambience sounds that helps me sleep at night with "Exultia" & "Taras Nabad" & much more. Honestly, how does Mick Gordon do it?

& Let's not forget about Andrew Hulshult for his music scores for The Ancient Gods Part 1 & 2. After hearing what happened between Mick Gordon, Bethesda, & id Software I was bummed out to learn Mick wasn't coming back to compose for The Ancient Gods 1 & 2 DLC, but with Andrew Hulshult taking over for the DLC's music, after giving some time & listening to his scores I learned that Andrew can do just as good of a job as Mick. Remixing some of the familiar scores from the main game but in a respectful way that honors Mick's work like Urdak's theme "The Holt" (Ambient Mix) which is a creepier mix of the OG score, the heavy aquatic ecosystem sounds of the "UAC Atlantica Facility", the extremely deadly traps of "Blood Swamps" with everything there out to kill you & as a long time Floridian, I'm surprised there aren't any Demon Alligator or Crocodiles, the incredible Ambient & Super Heavy Mix of "The World Spear" where if you listen very closely Andrew uses some of the old Classic DOOM sounds into the mix, the aftermath of the Demonic invasion of "Reclaimed Earth", the war between the Night Sentinels & Hell armies of "Immora", & the final Chapter of the Doom Slayer's story against "The Dark Lord" himself "Davoth" (Extended Mix) in an epic final battle where you feel like the entire weight of the universe is on your shoulders.

Andrew Hulshult truly captured the feel & essence of the Ancient Gods Part 1 & 2 in a very unique way here which is very much appreciative after taking the torch for Mick Gordon's absence.

Coming back to The Ancient Gods Part 1 & 2, it's a massive step up on Demon varieties & challenges compared to the main game. Depending on what difficulty you play on TAG 1 & 2, you have Buff totem enemies that were in the main game, but with the addition of new Buff Demon types like Spirits that can possess a random Demon which further increasing not only a Demon's speed but durability as well & can become a real nuisance amongst the group of enemies if not taken care of first, Microwave Beam can definitely do the trick in getting rid of those pesky Spirits, just make sure to do so before they possess a Baron of Hell or worse a Marauder, then you're in for a world of trouble. I can't say the same for Screecher Zombies however because if shot at, they let out a scream which can give nearby Demons temporary Buffs, just shoot them if there aren't any Demons close by them & you should be good, just be careful not to trigger them when shooting non-Buff enemies. Stone Imps that can only be taken down by either Full-Auto-Shotgun or instantly killed by your Sentinel Hammer, & for a last resort, the limited gas use of your Chainsaw can also do the trick in case you run out. For Armored Barons, just shoot their morning star weapon located on their right hand during a windup with either Precision Bolt, Ballista shot, Stick Bombs, or Rockets & that will break their armor instantly, Heat Blasts or Microwave Beams from your Plasma Rifle can also work, but less efficiently.

Pro tip, for Spirit Possessed/Screecher Buffed Marauders, use the Sentinel Hammer to stun them, then immediately use Rocket Launcher Lock-On Burst & bombard them with Rockets for immense amounts of damage. It helped me a lot on my Nightmare mode run.

I could go on for the Cursed Prowlers, Riot Soldiers, or Blood Maykrs, but I'll let the game teach you how to beat them naturally.

Online features for Eternal such as Battlemode, is a 1 vs 2 battle experience in which two playable demons face off against one fully loaded Slayer in a best-of-five round-based brawl. Both sides are able to select one upgrade at the end of each round to improve their abilities, such as decreasing cooldown time between tactical moves or increasing the number of health pickups enemies drop. Basically, replacing Multiplayer DOOM 2016 had in favor of a quick simple 1 vs 2 match brawl with Battlemode, which I don't mind id Software did, they wanted to do something different & unique here.

Ending my Review here, DOOM Eternal is a First-Person Shooter defining game I will remember fondly looking back blasting Demons like never before. Lose yourself in the world/universe of DOOM Eternal, explore & uncover the levels.

DOOM Eternal proves that gameplay is king. The story is fine, but the real soul of this franchise is its fluid combat, insane optimization, and nonstop adrenaline. Every one of the 9 weapons feels unique, forcing you to constantly switch, adapt, and stay aggressive. Compared to DOOM (2016), which felt more strategic, this is pure joy being fast, brutal, and unbelievably smooth.

The blood and gore are insane, the world design and graphics are beautiful, and exploration never feels boring. The music may sound relaxing between fights, but once combat starts, it pushes the intensity perfectly.
With Update 1.1, Denuvo Anti-Cheat was removed, eliminating the game’s only real downside.

Tip: Collect all collectibles before finishing a mission as you can’t revisit them until the full game is completed.

Pricing: Frequently drops to 90% off (under $2) during sales makes it an absolute steal.

After playing 60 hours of this game and seeing everything it has to offer (except the pvp mode) i can say this.
It's quite different compared to Doom 2016, some things were better, some things were worse.
Upgrading your weapons, finding them around the map, upgrading your suit are more or less the same which i really like. Some runes are missing which made you OP in 2016 like the infinite ammo rune. You have unlockable cheats if you want to replay the main levels in a different way, you have an amazing ship with the freedom to explore and unlock different things. There's a ton of skins and things that can be equipped in this game and all of them require different things to unlock them. I played the main game on Nightmare on my first playthrough and i only had trouble figuring how to deal with the Marauder, but afterwards when i understood what to do it was fine. I was really happy and pleased with the main game. However i didn't know that it would literally act as a tutorial for children compared to the nerve destruction the DLC's and the other modes have to offer......

Ancient gods part 1:
Barely any story, 10 or even 20 times more enemies than usual, you barely have any break. They always cut off your path and isolate a small portion of the map until you kill every enemy, it feels very claustrophobic, many times you fall of the map, you constantly have to jump and dash and eventually you get stuck between 5 or more monsters attacking you at every angle. And of course they added more monsters/gimmicks that make the experience far far worse. It was very frustrating and barely enjoyable but i finished it on Nightmare. Fun fact- if you finish a level on a lower difficulty and redo it on a higher one - it doesn't count for some reason???

Ancient gods part 2:
More or less the same as Ancient gods part 1, but with more story + some parkour and base jumping which was very enjoyable. I decided to play it on "Ultra Violence" difficulty to make it less frustrating and more enjoyable. Of course they added more gimmicks that made the monsters annoying to deal with (massive buffs). I had way more fun with it but if i try to play it on Nightmare i will punch a hole thru my monitor.

Horde mode:
It's divided in to 3 missions, each mission has 3 waves + bonus levels type "do this before the clock runs out" (kill a set amount of enemies, collect all coins, collect all coins and parkour to the end of the level). Your actions give you a score and at the end you have a medal depending on your score. You start off only with your shotgun and you collect your weapons slowly 1 by 1. You earn extra lives depending on some objectives you do. It starts off easy and of course it ramps up the difficulty. It takes a long time to beat so you have saves, but it only saves the start of each mission (so you can lose a lot of progress). For this one i literally just wanted to try and beat it on a normal difficulty and if i liked it i may try and do it on a higher difficulty. I lowered it to "Hurt me Plenty" and it was going alright, at mission 2 it started to become difficult at times. And when it came time for Mission 3.... Ooofers... There were soooo many of the hard bosses on my screen at the same time that it was hard to stop and shoot them at any point. I had to constantly run away but its a small arena so theres barely any place that you are safe even for a second. The last wave was just an endless nightmare.... Just when you thought it couldn't get worse IT BECOME WORSE AND WORSE AND WORSE. Words can not describe the amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ one needs to endure. It was extremely hard, no idea how disgusting it will be on the higher difficulties...

Master levels:
There are 4 master levels for the main game and 1 for the Ancient gods part 2. Basically it's the exact same levels that you've already played BUT 1000000 TIMES MORE DIFFICULT due to the endless amount of enemies and you constantly running out of ammo. They have buffs, you get nerfed (slowed down, can't jump, fog, cursed, they get speed boost, resilience, deal more damage etc) it's literally masochism, it's like Dark Souls on Cocaine.

I played thru the whole Doom 2016 and the arcade mode and got the best medals for all difficulties. It felt like child's play compared to the difficulty of Doom Eternal.... The visuals are beautiful, optimization is superb, overall the game is amazing, but no idea why they decided to go in this direction with the difficulty.
